The challenging targets of this case study has been twofold: ensuring high system reliability against summer heat waves, while meeting energy efficiency objective during mid season. The installed refrigeration pack equipped with ETE system with two compressors meets them both: ensure stable performance even under extreme ambient temperatures (potentially exceeding 43°C), without causing operational instability, and achieving higher performance with lower temperatures.
- ECO2Giant pack
- 2x ETE technology
- MT design load 363 kW
- Store surface: 5000 m2
Since the refrigeration pack serves mainly coldrooms, the key benefits of this technological choice are:
- wider range of modulation: the presence of two ETE compressors (one with inverter) allows a lower activation point, ensuring good energy performance in case of low load and/or mild temperatures.
- higher system resilience against extreme temperatures: the ETE subcooling capacity is enhanced at higher ambient temperatures, ensuring a good level of subcooling in all conditions.
This graph shows how the HPV valve opening remains stable during all day, even when the ambient temperature reach 43°C, thanks to the ETE system.
This also allows for a reduction in flash gas formation, represented by the low percentage of RPRV valve opening.
This graphic show how the activation of both ETE compressors works in reality: as soon as the combination between gas cooler outlet temperature and load conditions require it, both compressors starts without provoking any instability to the system.
